Storm Chaser

I want to feel for another,

The way I feel for a storm.

Blanketed by calm and peace,

As the rain begins to fall.

The strikes of lightning–

each more memorizing

and enchanting than the last–

drawing me towards

as the thunder crashes beside me.

Shaking the earth beneath my legs as

They move with excitement.

Trying to push closer,

Even as it is all around me.

The rain pounds

like the loudest drum as

clouds billow aggressively above.

The sounds colliding to connect with

words of affection whispering through

the winds, wrapping themselves around

me for a moment, before sweeping upwards

towards the eye.

Just as I’m wishing this moment for a lifetime,

There’s a shift in the winds.

And I recall why I can’t love a storm,

Either it dissipates or leaves to destroy on.
