Paradise Taken

Where are all my savage souls,
that want a little grit to show,
that struggle for the sake to grow,
that know it’s the ragged ones that are truly whole.
But it takes a timely toll — proving patience right.
Appealing to our sense of sight,
to see it’s not just death that requires fight,
when it’s the roughest diamonds
that refract so bright.
So we mustn’t wait for the dying of the light
to not go gentle into that good night.
For that’s the lesson to learn from Eve–
Darkness can often deceive.
So regardless of what any believe,
I’ll be prepared to outwit the devil
with the tricks up my sleeve.
A snake, once a monster, now a coiled pet peeve;
won’t realize I fed him the apple of his own soul
until I choose to leave.
